History

In 1982 Wings Aeromedical Services UK was founded by Roy Harrill, and was run as a family enterprise for 25 years. The company offered private assistance and repatriation services for the travel insurance industry. At the same time Wings Ambulance Service was founded, covering the South West of England, offering road ambulance transfers for private individuals and the travel industry. Later on a Medical Training Centre was established to offer a full range of in-house training courses.

In 1998 the Wings Group acquired the Automobile Associations 'Alert Assistance' private and corporate assistance business which then traded as Alert Assistance (Wings).

In 2002 Wings Ambulance Services established a depot in Glasgow, Scotland, but this was later closed down.

The Wings Group of Companies has developed to become one of the UK's leading private providers of Aeromedical Repatriation and Ambulance Services and is now actively involved in supporting the NHS ambulance service to achieve its targets.

In 2008 the Wings group was acquired by a group of private investors who plan to further develop the business.
